Antenatal GP Shared Care

Dr. Tosch works alongside the experienced midwives at Mingara Medical to offer high quality GP shared care - as a familiar and easy alternative to midwife led care at the hospital. As a mum of two, she has been on the pregnancy journey herself, and understands the joint excitement and anxiety pregnancy can bring.

Shared care patients will still have an initial booking in appointment and a delivery planning appointment at 36 weeks with the hospital, but have their regular midwife appointments at Mingara Medical led by our own midwives with GP oversight and input at every appointment.

We work in close collaboration with Gosford Hospital and provide approximately 90% of antenatal shared care on the Central Coast.

Initial 30 minute GP Appointment

During your first appointment Dr. Tosch will review your full medical history including medication, substance use, blood pressure, weight, family history, gynaecological history, and of course your pregnancy history and symptoms. She will discuss antenatal supplements, what to avoid in pregnancy, arrange bloods, urine tests, and ultrasounds, and talk to you about what options are available for hospital care and first trimester screening.

Antenatal clinic Appointments

After your initial scans and GP appointment, your appointments will be with both the midwife and the doctor. Together we will help you navigate each stage of pregnancy, check the growth and heart beat of baby (from 16 weeks), screen for complications, help you through common pregnancy complaints, and collaborate with you to stay up to date with the bloods, scans, and vaccinations that are recommended during pregnancy.

Post natal mum and baby checks

The beauty of shared care is that the same team who saw you throughout your pregnancy are there to support and celebrate you when your baby comes. We often see both mum and baby at 3 weeks and 6 weeks post partum, and can help debrief birth, give tips for adjustment to new-born life, review any concerns and reassure about what is normal, discuss contraception options, offer feeding support, check baby’s growth, and provide vaccinations.
